AOL problems

[link to this post]

Im reaching the end of my tether with aol now.

I'm on the 8meg service and all has been ok since june, about a week before xmas my speeds starting dropping and now I can only get 1.4mbps, I have called aol numerous times who keep going through the same dumb questions like firewall questions etc, I am 100% certain the problem is not my side, I have tried 3 computers, 3 different routers and 3 filters and with each my download speed is 1.4mbps.

Anyway they eventually agree to send a bt engineer who came this morning, no problem with my line he reported but I still have the same problem and aol don't have a clue, what can I do next?

Thanks for any suggestions

Check your speed on the BT speedtest which bypasses your ISP - it may point to a problem with you or your exchange.

Plenty of good advice here: http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/slowspeeds.htm

Is it just your download speeds that have dropped, or is it that your sync speed has dropped as well?

I'd pay it off if I were you. But then I'm not.

I have been to the setting in the router and my downstream is still showing as 7616kbps.

I have been on www.speedtester.bt.com and get the following results.

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 1500 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 7616 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 1374 kbps

If you wish to discuss these results please contact your ISP.

If you are experiencing problems with specific applications, servers or websites please contact your ISP for assistance.

Your test has completed please close this window to exit the performance tester.

Nothing wrong with AOL then - it's BT's ADSLMAX that's giving you problems
