21CN Bt's next-gen network

Anyone else looking forward to the next-gen network the so called 21CN that BT have started to implement, with the promise of better broadband speeds and greater reliablity and new capabilities, it sounds really good to me.

Personally I can't wait till 2008, wish they started with London instead of cardiff but all is good and I hear we can expect the next-gen broadband services to start from Jan 2008, well as long I can expect great improvements in speed and reliablity on my current line everything should be merry

It will be 2011 when it hits us, so to be honest I have no interest and I doubt very much if it will make any difference anyway.

I don't think the 21CN will make much difference short term as it will just save BT on costs (which isn't necessarily a bad thing and I'm not bashing BT) but eventually it will offer faster speeds * and a more reliable connection as well as faster rollout of services.

Some people have to wait until 2011 though but I'm lucky as I only have to wait around 7 months.

Yeah that's true some ppl have to wait till 2011 but cardiff gets its on Nov 2006 not sure if Bt have started though but then again even if cardiff gets its now I guess no one will be provinding next gen broadband for a while.

I do hope it makes a difference in speed, atleast Bt are claiming it will anyway. I wish during the period Bt could install Optical Lines now that would be very very sweet.

Wow ADSL2+, most of the heavily populated areas have had this for years already. BT are the epitome of conservative.

BT claimed that ADSL MAx would be better and look what happened to that,

I disregard most things BT says.

Why should London get it first?

Have you ever worked on implementing a major comms network? You need to find somewhere that will be an easy install, give reasonable traffic of all types, easy access to cables/fibres &c &c &c but is not too large or too small. That allows all of the bugs to be ironed out, processes tidied up, rather than the mess you can get by starting in the largest, densest comms area of the country.

I certainly do not want London to get it first and would prefer to see London starting about half way through the rollout.

In the OP's defenece they said wish rather than should, presumably because they lust after the higher speed potential of ADSL2+. But with the prevalence of LLU in London chances are they already have that available now.

True London is a big network to implement early on but if it was there would be a good chance we might be able to see the next-gen services being offered early on and how they perform.

Yeah max was extremely dissapointing (for me anyway) compared to other LLU providers but you never know, you can always hope for improvement.
