Using Orange e-mail via Talk Talk Broadband

[link to this post]

We have recently installed Talk Talk Broadband.

We previously had dial up internet via FREENETNAME and ORANGE / WANADOO / FREESERVE. We could us either ISP to connect to the internet and send / receive e-mails from / to both e-mail accounts.

Now, with Talk Talk Broadband, we can receive e-mails from both accounts but can not send.

Can anyone advise how we can set up the system to send and receive from our old ISP e-mail accounts through the Talk Talk Broadband service?

Thanks,
SAHI

you need to set the sending server to be the Talk-Talk one SMTP server - smtp.TalkTalk.net, instead of the "old" one. Leave the receiving servers the same.

Thank you for your suggestion. I have already tried this, but sadly it did not work. I also set the password to verify the send e-mail account separate from the receive, but this also did not work. I have tried in both MS Outlook 2002, and in Outlook Express. My operating system is Windows 98.

Has anyone ever got this to work? I assume that what ever I need to do for Orange is the same as I would need for any former dial-up ISP?

It's always worked for me, all I do is change the SMTP server setting to the current ISP (although I run my main mail through 1&1 and use their servers regardless of ISP).

How long ago did you leave Orange? IIRC, you need to dial in every 60 days to keep the email address active.

what is the error message you get ? "it doesn't work" doesn't give us much to go on.

I would also start with no authentication on SMTP as most ISPs don't use it. There's a Talk-Talk section here where fellow victims may be able to assist. I have in the past also seen a lot of flannel about MTU settings and their mail servers, they seem incapable of fixing what the MTU should be.

As Yarwell says you can't. You can only send emails out through TT.

It's probably due to reducing spam and tracking the offending sources down.

Yarwell,
Thanks for your suggestions. I will re-try the settings tonight. There was an error message that came back, but I will have to check from home pc tonight, not at work.
Thanks,
Nigel.
