Nice and quick easy ping related question, +more

Basically i know there is something which BT / isps started putting on the adsl lines around the time bt launched 8mb packages. It effectively makes the connection more stable, and allows for higher sync speeds whilst lowering ping.

I totally cannot remember the name of this, but i would like to know Betheres stance on using this method, also what is it called so i can request it to be taken off the line since i literally am 500m from my local exchange....

Also a quick question, im fairly sure i should be getting a bit more download speed considering my line attenuation and snr and the distance from the exchange here are the stats from my speedtouch bebox, isnt my connection meant to be something other than annex a?

Its called Interleaving and its a technique used to reduce certain type of errors that can affect xDsl lines.It usually has the effect of slightly reducing sync rates.
AFAIK, Be apply interleaving on all lines automatically, but you can request it be turned off on the unlimited and Pro services. Just raise a support ticket in the members area

It will allow for higher sync rates, but will increase your ping times slightly. If you use VoIP or online gaming you will only see a difference.

Annex A means ADSL over an analogue Line
Annex B means ADSL over an ISDN Line (mainly Germany AFAIK)

the difference is the frequency split point between the original use (analogue or ISDN) of the line and the start of ASDL bandwidth useage.
ISDN requires somewhat bandwidth more than standard analogue, so the start point of the lower frequencies for ADSL is higher. In principle, the filter would be different... but as an ISDN box is hardwired it would have appropriate filters added at that point. The user sockets/end would already be protected.

You need to have interleaving switched off. This is also known as fast path.

ok im now on fastpath, i sync at 3mb higher than previously and my pings have halfed

totally stable connection still.
