Crackling on voice line

[link to this post]

I am on ADSL Max and my line is long (attenuation 46.0). I have problems with stability - sometimes my router stays synched all day - but occasionally it resyncs repeatedly leaving me with an IP Profile of about 250 (usually it is 3000). I have tried everything my end (master socket etc). When i make voice calls I notice a lot of crackling on the line. Could this be causing my ADSL line problems?

Could be, try reporting a voice fault via BT.

I get crackling from time to time but it doesn't seem to affect my ADSL. Nonetheless you should report it to BT. They always fix my crackling within a couple of days. It's caused by water in the underground junction box. I've never had them query my complaint - they accept that it shouldn't crackle and they fix it.

Almost certainly. But something you need to check.

Does the phone line still crackle if you plug the phone (no filter) into the Test Socket inside the master socket? Just to prove it isn't your broadband stuff causing the voice crackle. Worth trying with a standard corded phone as well, not a cordless one.

If still a crackle then report a voice fault. BUT!!!! Do not mention broadband at all, and if they ask tell them you have done what I just suggested.

Good luck. And attenuation 46 isn't particularly high. Mine is 51 and I get mid-6000s sync. But that's an excellent quality line even though longish.

wish I was so lucky I was told my 'snap crackle pop' (and clicks recently) is all normal and nothing to be concerned about.

This is not the best of advice IMHO, for starters the OP may not be using BT as their voice provider. Secondly, it's not always caused 'by water in the underground junction box', the cause can, and does vary. The initial reply would get my vote. Confirm that the symptoms remain at the test jack, and then report it via your voice service provider.
