aol or bt

[link to this post]

At the present I am paying aol about 22 p.m. for broadband and phone calls and bt 28 per quarter for line rental. I wonder if I would be better off moving everything to bt?

I suggest you have a good look around these forums before making any rash decisions.

Definitely not a good idea. You might save a bit of money but both are pretty ropey on broadband customer satisfaction. See here and here.

What do you use your broadband for. General browsing, internet shopping, banking and so on? Lots of video and music downloads, BBC iPlayer? Gaming? It makes a difference to the best ISP to go for, which we can advise you about. (It also makes a difference to how you interpret those comparisons).

Have you got Sky TV or an O2 mobile? Some info about your exchange would help - see here.

It would help if you could post your line stats, but with AOL you may not be able to get them. See here or here.

Also useful would be the results including IP Profile from a BT speed test at www.speedtester.bt.com but that is bust at the moment. When it is working, it generally says the system is too busy in the afternoons and evenings. In any case after putting you phone number in it takes an age before it does anything else, so don't think it has stuck.

LMAO !

I was tempted to leave it, but now corrected.

Thanks.

Mind you, considering the two ISPs the OP is talking about, maybe that should have been the opening two words.

Just to put my spanner in the works. I have just had 18 months with BT and honestly had no problems aprt from one, good speeds and everything. Used to download about 40 megs per month, The only problem i have had was billing. I left them last August having moved house, if my new house was BT connected I would have stayed with them but was not paying £125 to be connected so went to Virgin Cable which also contrary to popular beliefs has also been very good. With all the ISP's on offer they all have there bad points and good points. You can always find the bad but very few tell you about the good. At the end of the day it is doen to personal choice, I even used to be with AOL years ago and had no problems with them.
