As you say SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) is how powerful the signal is compared to noise. However ADSL devices invariably report the SNR Margin which is not the same thing.

IIRC it also isn't the first time he has replied to the latest post in a thread without linking to the post he is replying to. I hardly see this stuff as a reply to me which is how he posted it.

I have just found that apparently Freedon2Surf now belong to Tiscali. Reference my earlier post asking if your ISP was Tiscali/Pipex/Nildram.

It seems to me you have probably been transferred to a Tiscali LLU connection. This involves your telephone line being disconnected from a BT DSLAM and re-connected to a Tiscali DSLAM. The voice part is then routed from the BT phone system through that DSLAM to get onto the line.

Looks like a problem there!

The general advice and feeling seems to be that the best thing to do if you are on Tiscali LLU is to migrate away. Unfortunately many ISPs charge for a migration in from LLU. Don't you just love Tiscali?

ISPs you could move to include Newnet who I don't think charge for an LLU migration in, and freeola who only charge �9.99 and a first month cost of �9.99.

He might do better if his basic research and knowledge were better. He has a long way to go to improve on Samknows, Kitz and DSLZone and IIRC several others less well known.

I couldn't even read this latest post and I think I am well acquainted with the subject matter. I would place zero trust in his program. Apart from the fact there are many estimators based on attenuation, plus farina, already.

Hey I dunno if you have a Dynalink modem, but there is a setting there, where you can boost the signal from the modem end - let me know if you do and I will post the settings.

It was pretty cool, I saw some really weird increases to signal strength on a friends connection and I couldn't work it out, but that was what he had done. I am not sure if this is the same with other modems.

I accept that, but those sites didn't spring up fully formed overnight. They all took a great deal of effort and learning.

You have replied to my last two posts with stuff clearly intended for someone else. Your postings would be much more use if they were linked to the post your were replying to.

This applies in both Flat mode, which I think you are using, and Threaded mode which many of us use. Have a look at where your posts appear in threaded mode and you will perhaps understand.

Fair feedback - I am not as good an expert on DSL than many people on the forum, and that was why I was so keen to hear on what feedback there was.

I have been wanting to improve my skills at php through this as a project, and I thought at the same time I might be able to develop my own DSL skills too.

I am certainly not very good at coding, and some of the maths behind the calculations are doing my head in I think that is fair to say! :-)

Feel free to let me know what logic errors were that you saw, as that was the main reason that I was wanting to road test the tool in a real environment.

I have heaps of work to do on this, and the more competent critical feedback is only going to help make it happen (that is meant as a compliment).

I think they at least had the basic technical knowledge to start with, and only had to learn how things worked in practice. Just look at this post for example. What does this mean - "Generally a full install is best and they are far less likely to fail" in the context? Presumably he didn't spot it needed deleting in his copy and paste.

The sentence above it is hardly correct though has a grain in it. The paragraph above that bears little relation to the quote it is addressing.

And he continues to hit the Reply button on the latest post in Flat mode so far as I can see, which doesn't help.
