Lots of disconnections high errors

[link to this post]

Been having this problem for a while now but finally decided to get something done about it.

Our adsl drops connections lots, it sometimes goes several hours with no problems. Then has a period of time where it cant hold a connection for more then a minute.

Here are couple dmt shots.

(Normal stats before it drops) this was after reconnecting after it had lost connections a few minutes before.

Router is a Netgear DG834GT using adslnation filtered faceplate (since swapped back to the standard faceplate so engineer cant blame that. Have tried in test socket aswell same problem.

I have engineer coming on Monday, what should I tell them?

Also it just dropped when it started raining while writing this message, although it does happen when its not raining or anything.

The phone seems fine, perhaps faint crackles in the background but they could be normal idk.

Btw, isp took sync down to 12mb from 14mb said it could be because of that, I'll try get that back when its fixed. Also its plugged into the master socket normal faceplate at the moment so snr slightly lower than normal.

Many Thanks

Mike

Have you tried a different router and power supply? Or even a factory reset on this one? Replaced the ADSL cable?

It does look like a line fault (or a router, cable or ADSL filter).
The masses of errors (note the "x64" multiplier) indicate a very high level of noise on the line, but this shouldn't cause a drop from 12-14Mbps to 900kbps.
Also, note the increase in line attenuation (from 29dB to 39dB).
Whilst a 39dB line should be able to connect around 9Mbps+ (rather than the 900kbps you're getting), it does indicate a connection problem (and I mean a physical connection, rather than an internet or ADSL connection).
Almost as if your line has a loose connection, or a high resistance joint somewhere.

It could be a high level noise source (but it would need to be very close to the line, or very noisy - such as an electrified train line running past your house).
Is there any pattern to the disconnections, or is it totally random?
Do they happen only at night, or at any time?

If you've carried out the steps mentioned by Bob, and also tried alternative ADSL filters and routers (if you have spare), you've pretty much tried all you can, and you'll have to hope BT send a good engineer tomorrow (and hope the problem happens when he's there - but, at least you've got DMT screen-shots).

I also note you're on a 12dB target margin (evident by the 12dB margin on the upstream). Is the 9.9dB margin (under normal 12Mbps conditions) your doing (via a bit of tweaking), or has the margin dropped (from 12dB) because of noise levels?
