Internet ad tracking system will put a 'spy camera

[link to this post]

Almost every internet user in Britain will effectively have a spy camera put in their homes under new plans to roll out targeted advertising technology in the UK, the founder of the web has warned.

I'd expected Alex to be the 1st poster of this...perhaps he's updating his site?

Google is perhaps confusing things as they are doing tracking as others have without DPI

I think the issue Alexander and other have raised, though, is that being tracked by google is the price we pay for a free service, each of us is welcome to use a different search engine. Phorm has the potential to grab far more data, indeed that's what it's designed for, it is being 'sold' to the ignorant public (the vast majority of users) as a security tool rather than a big leap onto the slippery slope of full-on internet surveillance

"each of us is welcome to use a different search engine" this is true, but the latest system seems to possible be extending to cover google adsense sites, though I notice a set of tools to control it from the user point of view are available.

You had me confused there, until I just read the register article

edit - I've just downloaded the firefox plugin - then remembered that I already use adblockplus (turned off for this and a couple of other sites) so I rarely see ads anyway!
Time for me to get some more tinfoil, methinks tongue

That could be fun on a shared computer when they start advertising porn on "My Little Pony" game sites.

Same goes for Phorm too I suppose unless they hook into webcams to check if it is mum dad or little billy surfing.
