Summer months / weekend broadband supplier?

[link to this post]

Hi,

I have a property which is only used during summer months and at Easter, and a handful of other weekends. I need a broadband supplier but obviously don't want to have a monthly plan.

Is there any ISPs which offer such suitable package?

I'd also need a phone supplier on same basis, if one exists!

Thanks.

The closest that comes to mind immediately is the TalkTalk offer at Carphone Warehouse until the end of this month. A phone and broadband package on an 18-month contract costing just the £10.50 line rental for the first 12 months then £16.99 for the last six.

As there's no way out of the phone contract, no CP is going to let you start and stop rental just when you feel like it, that looks good.

Of course, there are such things as mobile phones and mobile broadband tongue!

Thanks RobertoS smile

Another option is Plusnet's £5.99 pm (for 3 months) and then either £5.99 or increase to £11.99 a month, depending on location (18 month contract). But I can't find out how to determine if I'm in a low cost area!

Edit : I'm in a Market 1 area, so its £11.99 frown

Edit 2 : Just realised that the TalkTalk offer at Carphone Warehouse deal is phone and BB, so more interesting smile

Yep! (That's what I said smile).

If it is for your own use, note that the standard allowance is 40GB though someone on it says you can pay the £4 to double that. You may also be able to do the same with the speed, if the line is capable of more than 8Mbps in the first place.

Also the TT broadband is very heavily throttled on Torrents. P2P such as iPlayer downloads are OK though.

Other options

If you are a normal user, not a bandwidth eater, then the Post Office combined package may suit.

If you want top class broadband and the exchange is O2 enabled you could get the line through the Post Office, cheaper than BT, and O2 Value (8Mbps LLU ADSL2+ unlimited downloads) at £7.34pm if you have an O2 mobile topped up by at least £10 per quarter.

You might even be able to increase and decrease the speed once per month if the line can handle it.

Great stuff, RobertoS.

Usage would be 'normal' on this account. 40G would be more than adequate but I'd prefer abilioty to have some P2P, even if throttled, just in case needed occassionally.

Just be sure you understood the combination of the two posts if you are veering to TT/CPW. Torrents are P2P and apparently completely hammered. So they must be spotting the difference from iPlayer P2P and the like somehow.

Unless it's just iPlayer streaming that is fine.

I don't know really - you would need to enquire a bit yourself.
