You are right, I just tried forcing the router into adsl2+ mode and no connection, what the hell are virgin playing at! they broke this over a month ago frown

Which isp would people recommend from http://www.dslzoneuk.net/exch_info.php?exch_code=SDB... do I go LLU or do I try someone like newnet, I would try aaisp but they are just too expensive?

Be/O2

They are sometimes a little late in adding capacity when it's needed but for the vast majority, most of the time they are excellent.

Thanks for the advice guys, does anyone have a link the difference between be and o2 packages?

As my line has not made it to 8mbit I assume that I might as well go for the 8mbit package and then can upgrade it later if I seem to be getting a good connection speed. It seems silly to sign up to a 20mbit package and then only get 7mbit.. I might as well save the money unless there are other differences...

The Be packages had a major change 1 April. The best summary of the changes is here. Also have a look at this document. That tells you a lot about the technical differences, but hasn't been updated yet for the contract changes by MKD who produced it.

As I see it, the only reason now to go to Be would be if your were a really keen gamer so wanted to get Interleaving turned off, to improve your latency/pings.

I think both of them run your line uncapped for a few days of DLM, so you will be able to see what it can actually do. Then they let you change if you want to.

Re your line speed, I assume you have the ring wire sorted, either by an ADSL Nation XTE-2005, or a BT iPlate, or this way. It can make 2Mbps difference quite often, though usually less.

Thanks for the links, spot on info..

The ring wire is already sorted, there are no extensions and the router goes into the master socket which has a bt iplate fitted. Not sure there is much else I can do.

With the 3 months free offer O2 have on I might as well get the premium as it is cheaper than the value option! The only feature be offer here that O2 doesn't that would have been nice would be static ip and port 25 for my own mail server - but I would probs never get around to setting it up anyway!

Thanks again for the help.
Best Regards
Scott
