I.T Internships

Hello,

I'm guessing there are quite a few folks here that are involved in some way with the I.T industry. Therefore, I would be grateful for any tips or advice on how to go about finding a good, relevent internship for next summer. I have done the usual google searching and have generally come up with very little.

P.S I am a Information management undergraduate!

I can't help with what you want, but I suggest you either register on the forum (which is very easy and doesn't create spam) or at least put your name at the end of the post. Quite often we get more than one anonymous poster in threads like this, like "I have the same question and I live in ....". It gets impossible to know which is which .

But good luck, a lot of people here are involved in the industry as you suppose.

What discipline are you looking to be involved in and where are you based?

Hello and thanks for the responses.

I would ideally be interested in anything involving the handling, deployment, and management of I.T systems in a medium / large size organisation. Perhaps it would also be a multi-national business as I have Canadian citizenship and am considering relocating for career and lifestyle reasons.

However I'm not overly preferenced but anything where I can pick up employable, and useful skills in an I.T based or dependent company would be great, even if I have to be a tea-bringer every now and then


I am based in SW London and have access to a car also.

Getting a foot in that door is not easy, the helpdesk and moving up through the ranks is a common way.

What you need is to get some work experience under the belt, graduate job schemes are a lot less common, and competition from people with three or four years experience will be massive.

IT is such a wide label, as it can cover supporting staff in how they use and configure outlook, through to deploying a whole new multi million pound network, or managing bespoke projects.

I'd advise talking to some of the recruitment firms that specialise in IT roles, or at the very least reading what sort of jobs are out there, so you can hone your ambitions.
