Possible cause of my broadband problems?

[link to this post]

Hey there is some knowledgable people around and had some good responses last month when I posted so thought I might as well post again with my new problem to see if anyone can shed some light on the matter.

Basically 4 weeks ago my broadband got activated and a few days before it got activated my connection would come on and immediately drop (what i happening now). The day after I connected to the net but on a banded profile of 280k.

After 10 days of talking to Entanet support I got told I would have to keep an active connection for 3 days before bt would do anything about it. This wasn't realistic for me as I have an adsl modem however I kept my computer on for that time and 5 days later my connection dropped and when I put it back on my speed was increased to 6.5mb.

This remained stable until my computer crashed (it does that when I game quite often) and when I loaded my comp up again my speed dropped to 6mb. Seeing the problem here being my adsl modem I ordered a router off eBay after my comp crashed some more that week and my speed dropping and dropping. Eventually it stopped dropping and stayed at 1mb despite crashes or turning my comp off.

I got my router and enta told me my speed would improve on it's own. When nothing happend I called them and was told my speed wouldn't improve due to being on a banded profile again. They put a request through to bt to have it removed and lo and behold it was removed this morning and my connection was reset.

Problem being though that I can't connect to the net as when I put my router on my connection drops the same way it did a few days before my line went officially live.

Now after leaving my router on for an hour it was able to connected for a minute before my connection dropped this stopped though when I tried resetting my router. In this time i was able to find out that my banded profile was put on as my download speeds were the same as when i had my 1mb band on. However my connection was still dropping so something is clearly wrong here.

Does anyone have any theories? If so how about solutions I can put forward to enta support? Current status is bt have put it through to diagnostics and they are doing something as my router won't connect at all now to the dsl line. I'm a little worried tbh that bt are going to stick another 280k banded profile on again.. Is this likely?

Finally I know it's easy to say my Line can't handle high speeds however I've lived at this address for over 2 years and enjoyed no problems at all. Only difference being is that I had my phone line stopped due to a planned move which fell through so I had it reconnected and since then the problems started. I know the line is slightly different now but I live 800metres away from my citys exchange and 5 mins walk from the high street shops so it can't have changed that much could it? Plus as I said before I enjoyed a stable 6.5mb line followed by 6,5,4mb etc back when my speed was increased with no drops in connection.

Anyway any info, theories or solutions would be greatly appreciated.

Also it might be worth noting that I regularly checked my router stats to see if there was any changes and since my connection reset I noticed my noise margin was 6.3db which I'm sure was around 24db last night

Actual stats from the router when using the test socket?
Does the modem allow you to force it to connect at just ADSL speeds?

ADSL2+ is more sensitive to your internal wiring issues, hence check at the master socket.

It's in the master socket. Difficult to get my stats as it won't connect properly but I managed to do a print screen.. If u need more stats let me know what ones.. Downstream: line rate 10247kbps, noise margin 6.2db, Line attentuation: 43db output power 21.3dbm,upstream: 993kbps, noise margin 6.1db, line attentuation 22db, output power 12.6dbm

if it makes a difference it's an unlocked bt 210 voyager

Ah and I'm not sure if my router allows me to connect at normal adsl speeds but my old
adsl only modem drops connection too and doesn't even allow me a minutes access like my router does sometimes

You are connecting at 10mbps with a normal noise margin. If it's dropping the connection then putting you on a higher target snr (say 9db) will help stability but will give you a lower connection speed.

Is anything else connected to the phone line? Sky box? Telephone? Are they all filtered?
