Differences between BT Speedtester and ThinkBroadband Test?

[link to this post]

What is the difference between the BT speedtester.bt.com speed test and Thinkbroadband's test. I've found that the sort of figures which Thinkbroadband produces "appear" to be more in line with the "feel" of speeds experienced. However my ISP (O2) says that BT will only react to the speedtester results? Any thoughts?

For starters, speedtester.bt.com is only relevant to non-LLU, i.e. BT based lines.
You must be on O2 Access.

lots of differences.

where it is hosted
routing
bt speedtester shows ip profile, tbb does not.
(not sure on this one) I 'think' the bt tester also possibly bypasses the ip transit.
tbb does upload test alongside download test

When logged in using the test login, if you use your normal login, it still goes via your ISPs transit - which is why if you get speeds lower than the acceptable range, the speedtester asks you to use the special login for the third test.
