Changing ISP's

[link to this post]

Hello everyone
I've been reading lots of posts on this subject but I afraid i'm still a little confused. Here is my problem:
I am currently with BT total broadband and I wish to change to O2 broadband. We had a 12 month contract with BT that ended last month. Now I understand that I need to contact BT to get the MAC, but i'm unsure what i do after this. Do I need to get BT to cancel my broadband package with them or does it happen automatically when O2 takeover? And just genrally whar is the process afterwards.

Thanks in advance

You need to basically stop paying BT after the migration has happened, but your contract may require you to pay 30 days of fees from the date when you actually change ISP.

So once the moved has happened, get in touch with BT Total, tell them your move has taken place, and sort out final bills etc

DONT PHONE AND SAY YOU WANT TO CANCEL, that can result in your broadband being cancelled completely and lead to all sorts of issues. It is only the billing you wish to stop.

So Basically, In the end I'm just cancelling the direct debit to BT and the service is transferred to O2? Have I got this right? Oh, and thanks for the quick reply!

Basically you ring BT and state you wish to migrate to another ISP and require a MAC . They will probably transfer you around a bit and you will likely end up in the retentions team who may offer you a deal to stay and ask why you want to leave.
Once you get the MAC you then give it to O2. You may want go via Quidco cashback site and there is probably another cashback offer on at the moment.
Enter the MAC on the order page and wait for the service to transfer over.
Once your connection is on O2 then sort any billing arrangements with your current supplier.

See The MAC process on my website.

As rogan8 has said, when signing up to O2 make sure you go through either Quidco, (who I have used but take the first £5 per year of your cash back), or TopCashBack, (I haven't used but don't take the £5).
