O2 Broadband Usage Limits

Hi all,

This may have been covered before, but after a search I couldn't see anything.

I'm looking for information on O2s Usage Limits. They offer an 'unlimited package' but apply a fair usage policy as all do.

Does anyone know of the limits they put in, or any examples of large usage without being capped or otherwise penalised?

As I'm at home all day I can use towards an upward limit of 30gb a month.

Anything above that as a limit is fine, I just want to know whether they're nowhere near unlimited or they are as good as their word.

It's unlimited. An upward limit of 30gb a month will be fine.

I am fairly sure it is unlimited, I have shifted 66GB in the last 30 days in both directions.
Since 19th of Dec 2008 I have shifted 411GB both ways.
Never had any warning emails, letters or calls.


I dont think anyone has been slapped with a FUP as yet.

Absolutely shouldn't be a problem. I'm aware of a BE/O2 customer who's downloaded over 90GB so far this month (and we're only half way through).

The FUP refers to degrading the service for others IIRC.

Both O2 and their sister company Be have publicly stated in the past that they have never enforced their FUPs.

A while ago one Be user downloaded over 500GB during a cable break which was already slowing many customers. In his words he received a polite email asking him not to. He also says he has since downloaded over 500GB in a month more than once with no further ticking-offs.

I have just been kicked off O2 broadband for "excessive usage" They didn't warn me just sent me an email with the MAC code and an envelope in the post for returning the modem. I phoned them and asked why they sent me a MAC code, assuming it was a mistake along with the envelope.
Eventually when I got through they told me they were kicking me off. They didn't say how much I had downloaded. I have emailed them to complain and received a non specific reply.
I have now changed to ZEN with a limit of 50 GB/mth for £23. I prefer to know what the limit is and pay for more.
I will write to OFCOM and Which? to get O2 removed as a best buy.

That is O2 Access, not O2 LLU which is what the OP was asking about 54 weeks ago.

My reply to the OP at that time remains correct. Your problem with O2 Access I agree is unacceptable behaviour by O2, but please make sure when complaining that you make it clear.

Although you are justifiably upset, it's like saying all BMW cars are rubbish because one model is a dog despite the BMW advertising.
