LLU v ADSLMAX speeds

[link to this post]

Hi
Does anyone know if LLU providers always use ADSL2+ {Which I believe gives a theoretical maximum of 24kbps}. I am with Nildram (Opal) and as such it seems on Tiscali LLU (router stats show upload sync of 736kbps) but download sync hasnt changed since ADSLmax and is 7192kbps. Recent checks on availability with other ISPs have suggested I should be able to get 9-10Mbps so should I expect a little better than what I get now?

No, just 'cause it's LLU, doesn't mean they will be providing ADSL2+ sync. They can provide whichever sync/profile they see fit. Could it be that you are just paying for 'up to eight' from your ISP ?

TBH I dont kow what Im getting from them anymore! The marketing blurb always said "up to 24Mbps" however looking at my account on Opal website it says "Pipex 8192 35:1" which would indicate it is an up to 8Mb service however my upload rate of 736Kbps would indicate it is also on ADSL2+. I gues I'll have to try support but judging by others experience with the current hotch potch of Nildram/Pipex/Tiscali now Opal (the business division of Talk Talk) I seriously doubt if they know which way is up let alone have the ability to answer any technical questions...

No, ADSL (1) can support higher uploads, its just BTwholesale didn't provide them. I had 800kbps upload on ADSL1 with bulldog; long before ADSL2+ launched. (When BT was only offering 256kbps!).

Max premium can do 832Kbps upstream on ADSL

ADSL1 sync rates tend to be multiples of 32kbps, whereas ADSL2+ tend not to be (in my experience of Be/O2 LLU). I'd guess that 736kbps is more likely to be ADSL1.

Good point! Very seldom offered though. But Bulldog's service was 4mbps download before BT offered Max (I was on the original MetroNet 2mbps/256kbps fixed).

Dont quite get the point here....I know ADSL1 supports higher rates however as BT wholesale dont support and my upload data rate is over 600Kbps (sync at 736) does that not mean it must be ADSL2+ if its not then what is it!

The point of the question was to see if anyone knew if LLU automatically meant ADSL2+....answer no, however as it looks like my connection is then should I not get faster download rate as recent availabilty checks have suggested 9 - 10 Mbps

BT WHOLESALE DO SUPPORT THAT SPEED, its called Max Premium - unlikely you are on it, as you'd usually know about this.

Tiscali with its Datastream products used to put people on it sometimes. IPStream Max Premium is usually offered as a SME type product.

LLU is most often ADSL2+, but there is no absolute guarantee. The modulation mode as reported by the modem will tell this important fact.

If you post the attenuation, noise margin figures and sync speeds people can invariably tell you whether you appear capped or not.
