So it never was a BT issue then?

I have no idea. BT have certainly done work up there in the last few months, including the fitting of the fibre cabinet. That may have coincided with the Gas work, but I don't keep regular tabs on such goings on.

For all I know it could be none these and might have been, for example, a neighbour removing a long term source of intermittent interference.
