Re: Is samknows no longer being updated?

The benefit for the community at large was (and could still be) very similar in principle to the benefit(s) from the also-disappeared Netmonitor client - a large set of objective real-world performance information on various relevant aspects of an ISP's performance, based on trustable measurements and not some combination of subjective opinions and dodgy speedtests.

The benefit for the individual user was indeed a set of graphs, plus whatever warm feeling came from contributing to something bigger.

SamKnows did a bit more than Netmonitor and didn't rely on a PC being switched on 24x7.

Now afaict neither of them do anything and we're back to dodgy speedtests and subjective opinions frown

Did you ask them if the site is still being updated?

Or did your reply just say "...currently out of the office"! tongue

All I said was "hi" Dunno if my domain made the reply any quicker.

No, but 3LLUs + BT as wholesale = 4. Therefore Market 3, currently showing as market 2.

Not necessarily. The latest OfCom consultation document on upgrades to Market 3 is dated August 2010, and your exchange is not listed. It shows as staying as Market 2.

Upgrades are by OfCom declaration, not an automatic status trigger. I think there is also a number of connections factor.

When did TT enable it? Samknows doesn't give a date, but Sky was July 2010.

I don't think it's a dynamic process though, OFCOM produce a list and update it periodically. Otherwise pricing would be a bit chaotic.

My exchange was enabled sometime over Christmas an New Year I think, I've always checked to see if there was any possibility and there didn't seem to be.
Some time ago the Sky checker was telling me that our exchange (WNHOL) was due an upgrade in 3 months, however this seemed the same for most exhanges in the country so it was hard to believe.
I tried the Sky checker in Jan and it was telling me that the exchange had been enabled, checked Samknows and it was saying it wasn't, contacted them and they said they would contact Sky for info, and they did say that it might take some time to get a reply from Sky, Samknows has been updated now but there is no enablement date on it.
My connection went live yesterday, started off with a sync of 4095 downstream but today I'm already on 16382 so it's looking good

"edit" I have to say that Samknows responded quickly to my request when I asked if exchange was enabled, I think it was the same day and did reply to me in follow on email
