Re: O2 Wireless Box 2 Running slow for P2P?

Yes it is possible to downgrade, but not sure if O2 will remotely upgrade it again?

You can get the Ver 7 firmware from the O2 site here O2Broadband_SoftwareDownloads

Would there be any security issues if I downgrade back to the old V7 firmware?

What features does the V8 firmware offer, other than slowing down the router? tongue

I'm not sure what the differences are between V7 and V8 firmwares. I'm still running V7 as I've not been upgraded yet, and there's no way to get V8 other than have it pushed by O2.

You might try posting your question on the O2 and BE forums

O2 are going through changes its not just you. I recently changed my package to include o2 landline and so was no longer on the original o2 upto 8mb pack they used to do. when i was on the old upto 8mb i could download p2p upto 500 kb/s and it was great!
since changing to their new package upto 20mb i can only download at 60kb/s whihc is a absolute joke.
they have no reasons for this except to say o2 are chaning and i cannot tell you too much as i work for o2?

i went to my partners house and use my laptop to download same p2p files and concidering she is on the original 8mb and the old router i was getting 350kb/s again.

the new router is rubbish and they are definitely doing something to slow dow p2p downloads.

Product Name: TG587nv2
Serial Number:
Software Release: 8.4.2.R <------------ could it be simple as the firmware?
Software Variant: AI
Boot Loader Version: 1.1.1
Product Code: 3664214A
Board Name: CANT-8

Sorry to be unsympathetic to a newbie here, (and welcome in fact), but two points.

First, you have replied to a post from last July with something totally irrelevant.

Second - if you work for O2 I see little excuse for doing a stupid thing like swapping your package unless you are getting ludicrously low price rates for the bundle. The O2 phone offering is only marginally cheaper than BT once you price in the things you get free from BT.

Your problem is highly unlikely to be the router, it is simply the fact that The Basics is specifically designed to be useless for P2P - see the table on this page, as specified in O2's Help pages.

I'm still on legacy Standard like your partner and of course there is no problem.

thanks i just did a web search for slower download speeds on o2, i dont work for o2 the guy said to me since he works for o2 he could not go into too much detail.

but i changed my package as i went from bt landline to o2 by doing this they gave me free broadband for a year upto 20mb which is more than double previous package.

i was expecting to get double fast double download speeds not 1/8 or less, im unsure how this works.

Sorry about the "stupid thing" then, I read your post as saying you worked for them.

Read Section 4 of the page I linked to before.

Not only are you going to get very slow P2P downloads, I'd be very surprised if 20GB per month will be anything like enough for you.

If you weren't connecting at 8Mbps on Standard, and I think you were nowhere near that, then you wouldn't get any more speed on The Basics. You can see the connection speed in your router status page.

If you are still within 30 days of the package change and phone start you can leave without penalty. You have a 30-day "happiness guarantee".

So migrate to some other broadband if that's the case, (Be Value is your best bet), then you have a short time to get the phone back with BT or maybe you could move that to Be as well, but I wouldn't.

If you join Be through TopCashBack or Quidco you get £35-£40 cashback as well.

I'm afraid you cannot go back on to Standard frown.

i call o2 they said that i have traffic management on my account for last two year and recently they didn't do any changes to it .
