On christmas eve a talktalk engineer came out and said it was a line problem. This was reported to BT and a week later someone from open reach came out, did some meddling and got the internet working. He said that I needed to rewire and this would cost. He was meant to get back in touch with a price but have not heard back. I told talktalk about this and that there was still a problem with broadband as eventually the quickfix will fail as we need rewiring. Obviously hoping they would cover the cost as we pay line rental to talktalk on that line.
Forgot to mention that there are two lines as we have an ex-directory number which the broadband runs off, and a regular bt account on the other line.
Earlier on this week somebody from open reach popped by when I was at work and told my cleaning lady that I was to ask for a rewire. I wondered whether they were running tests on the line outside and concluded that all is well there so it must be my house wiring? Its quite a tale!
Then today another guy from open reach came by and told me that if there is a fault on the line then bt will cover the cost of the rewiring. But if they cannot find a fault I get charged for the visit, £80 or so. This engineer said that he couldn't hear any noise on the line but there may well be a fault further along that bt would have to find.
I know that the house has not been rewired in at least 25 years. There is definately a fault somewhere because the internet was completely [censored] for 2 weeks but has been fine since the first open reach guy meddled with something.
A complicated nightmare haha.
