LAN connection problem

I recently changed to Post Office and they provide a pre-configured Zyxel 5664 wireless router. The problem I have is that the wired (LAN) connection occasionally drops to my desktop PC. The browser won't load the page, OE won't download emails. It's only temporary - and the lights are staying on on the router. Wi-fi connections are fine - I don't have this problem on my laptop, or other wi-fi devices.

I've checked my LAN settings, they seem to be ok and I have downloaded the latest drivers but that hasn't solved it. Post Office tech support were very unhelpful.

Anyone got any ideas?

not very long, maybe 30 seconds to a minute.

Is it random, or regular, or is it triggered by trying to use it?

random I think. It always works when I first open the browser.

Well I suggest you get the TBB ping-tool and run it for a day or two (be sure to make it monitor said connection and not the wireless) and see if the graphs throw any light on things.

I don't know if the ping tool can ping a desired interface, or multiple interfaces though. Perhaps one of the staff members can enlighten. It would be interesting to see what happens on the other connection at the time of the LAN drop-out though.

Other than that, perhaps if you copy and paste your ipconfig/all results (blanking any static IPs). It may be a conflict of some sort. A more detailed description of the PCs, wiring and network kit in use might help too.

run ping to the router and see if it is that that breaks or the onward routing

ping 192.168.1.1 -t

from a command line - put 'cmd' in the Run box of Start in Windows XP, etc.

Change 192.168.1.1 to the router address if different.

thanks for your help, I've fixed it now. It was a problem with the Kaspersky firewall. It wasn't recognising the Ethernet port as the internet connection. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it with the changed settings and now it's fine

Very happy with Post Office so far - getting a consistent speed of 6MBps on the LAN
and 3.6 MBps on wi-fi.
