Possible causes for random ping increases

My Broadband Ping

Notice at around 2am the ping increases by 5ms or so and stays there. At the time I was sleeping and the PC was off (router was on obviously). I'm not overly worried but am curious. This is a fairly common thing. If I reboot my router there's a decent chance my ping increases. Then at some random point in a period of days it drops again to the mid 20s.

Is it Plusnet's gateway server latency, and the changes are server reboots?

Did your session drop at 2am and then reconnect to a different gateway? It could also be routing within BT's network that has caused that.
