Re: Speed query ... somethings changed (for the good?).

Still stuck on 2,000k IP profile. Think I'll leave it till tomorrow and then chase my ISP (Newnet) up.

Looks like errors continuing to build up at a fair rate, not sure if these are acceptable for the best part of 4 days light use?

Link Information

Uptime: 3 days, 22:17:05
Modulation: G.992.1 Annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 8,128
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]: 59.92 / 521.03
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 12.0 / 19.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 18.0 / 33.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 22.0 / 7.0
Vendor ID (Local/Remote): TMMB / µ
Loss of Framing (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Signal (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Power (Local/Remote): 0 / 0
Loss of Link (Remote): 0
Error Seconds (Local/Remote): 2,624 / 0
FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0
CRC Errors (Up/Down): 106 / 6,480
HEC Errors (Up/Down): 50 / 3,521

Looks like DMT does tell you if interleaving on/off.
Well I'm assuming that "ADSL Fast Path" indicates that it's off.

FEC Errors (Up/Down): 0 / 0

If there are never any FEC errors it usually indicates that interleaving is off.

It took about 130 hours of continuous sync for the IP profile on my connection to move from 2000 Kbps up to 3500 Kbps (Sunday afternoon)

Thanks for that. I'll wait till it gets to 5 days before moaning to Newnet.

To be totally honest, I rather wish BT (or rather the exchange) had left things alone. Sync, connection and throughput has been fine with Interleaving switched on for the last couple of years now.

Though my PING now looks quite impressive!

I had sort of assumed 0 FECs indicated this. But just interested to see that DMT actually gave you this information. Just a shame it can't pick up the IP Profile. Save having to keep trying (trying and failing a lot of the times) to run BT's Speed Test!

Still stuck. So decided to phone Newnet support. They answer pretty much straight away (one of the reasons I like Newnet). Fiddle about their end, I re-boot my router and way to go man... 7150 IP profile and that's with Interleaving switched off. Quite why it's this good so far from the exchange (3km+) is anyone's guess. BT man once said that I was spliced into the main cable that runs between the two exchanges (no idea if this is true).

I shall be interested to see if the line is as stable with interleaving switched off, as my SNRM swings a fair bit at times (more than the usual day/night cycle should cause me thinks).

Anyone else having problems with the BT speed tester since they changed the front end? I can't seem to get the damn thing to run whatever the time of day/night.
