Nothing to laff at here.. This exchange sucks and I'm stuck here with no way out. Dropped sync yesterday down to 5792... came home today to find router has had another resync and is now at 6496.... flaky line.. market one... no wonder I get depressed
Kinda sick to see people raging about price rises on a certain LLU operator... I'd happily pay a couple of quid more than I'm paying now for one of those legacy LLU packages... which is around double the price that some are being asked to pay. Even before this ever gets looked at for LLU my options are decreasing. Some people don't know when they have it good! Nice to see North Wales getting more investment.. even though they already have several 2&3k line exchanges LLU'd, we have none here despite being 3 times the size.

Broadly similar considerations could well apply to the email address given earlier, perhaps another relative is employed by the company concerned.
It may be purely malicious. There is no requirement to be employed by the company concerned in order to use the supplied email address.

I don't know anyone called Graham. I was wondering what that was all about and thought it was something to do with the deleted posts?
But .........
I have had an initial response from BTW though!!! It looks like I'm on the wrong service. I should be on an IP stream and they dont think I am on one. Whatever that is.
It will take them apparently 48 hours to sort this out for sure and then they will be paying AOL compensation if it goes over the 48 hours.
I know it isn't much of an improvement but this evening I am reaching the dizzy heights of 0.6 MB (three times faster than I have had in years at this time of day) so they have done something. At least I can load up my mail without it taking ages.

There is only IP stream and possibly IP stream connect c/o BTw at your exchange (no LLU provision) for your ISP to provide you with a broadband package.
I assume it is AOL who have suggested that BTw is at fault?
On a positive note it's a plus that the throughput speed has increased a bit more, hope it lasts or better still improves in the wee small hours.

Datastream line?
If BT have it down as Datastream but AOL think it's IPStream, could explain things.

Good point Bill, I must admit I don't know if AOL use datastream, wonder which ISPs do use it for residential end users?
Edit > just read your edit, you never know with BTw or AOL

I think Tiscali used Datastream for at least some connections... which gives us a possible link to AOL via CPW, maybe it was supposed to have been reverted to IPStream but slipped through the net?
Let's face it, if Tiscali, AOL and BT are all in the loop there's a degree of scope for error

AOL UK is now owned by Tsk..Tsk, sorry, TalkTalk. I have used AOL & TT, and hope never to do so again.
Better speeds and pings were achieved by ditching them. That is my personal thoughts. Others may have different opinions on it. Just take a look in their forums. Plenty of complaints can be found.

indeed, and they're still live. As part of the "one company" consolidation they may have put AOL users on datastream I suppose.
Another possible issue with AOL is that their historic use of PPPoE and their own cheeseware browser with dialler can result in a PC having two external interfaces and IP addresses and I don't know how the BT checker copes with that (or if it matters at all).

MaxDSL - goes as fast as it can and doesn't read the line checker first.

Are your kids pirates ? Limewire, Bearshare, Kazaa, BitTorrent, eMule are all tools of the trade.

I'd forgotten about the AOL browser
But in the OP, Hilary can run the test OK on her laptop using a neighbour's connection so either it's OK or she's not using it... can't comment on their PPPoE or IPs.
edit: I see from my ISPs status feed that BT had a fairly extended "Degraded Service" issue yesterday on the Pembroke exchange, maybe they were "fixing" it
