New provider!

Hi,

I'm thinking of moving from my current BB supplier (BT) ADSL MAX to TalkTalk LLU or Sky LLU or reseller of these.

My reason for moving is mainly the supposed cost reduction and perhaps bit more speed.

I'm a moderate user - between 50-100GB per month. I currently get around 4.5- 5.5meg from BT and enjoy online gaming Live and PSN. I was of the understanding that LLU could improve speed even with an increase of attenuation. However their line checks reduce my speed I�m getting now to 2.5 � 3.5meg also anyone's experiences would be appreciated.

Sky LLU, totally unlimited, UK CS and support. Does exactly what it says on the tin IMHO.

With those stats I would expect your throughput to double on LLU not half.
Does the Sky checker show Unlimited as being available to you?

At 50-100GB are you using P2P? TalkTalk throttle that heavily.

I think I would be tempted by the Sky rather than TalkTalk. But I wouldn't go for Sky Line Rental as that would be full LLU like TT is. Sky Calls is OK.

I don't know where they get that silly speed quote from, but probably from here. From your stats I would say you are looking at a connection speed of 8-10Mbps with a throughput of up to 84% of that.

Have you had instability on the line in the past? It looks like BT have you on a 9dB target noise margin.

Instability- very much, took me 2months of running the BT gaunlet to get it fixed, this is why I'm treading careful, Even though I had a letter (long story) from Bt that i should get connection of around 5meg thier line checkers and Bt speed test soon had me as unable to get 200kbs and therefore unable to get broadband and were prepared to let me go 1 month into new contract, they even supplied MAC, at this point my exchange had not been unbundled. I assume then i should be 6db, however it scares me contact them to change it, in case problems arise. The BT WS checker has me within 2-5.5meg, the speeds SKY & TT were estimates, from their own sites. May i ask why you would not have the Sky line rental?

P2P, not knowingly, I do literally watch any broadcast by Ariel over the internet. As I have no Ariel (relay transmitter poor) due to the cost and of a size, that I should be able to get a reception from Alpha Centuria, also I have no dish.

boysteve- yes unlimited is avaiable as from last month.

If you take line rental as well as BB you are completely unbundled. If you want to change provider in the future there may be a cost involved in returning the line to BT.
