Re: Incompatible Technology (TPON/FTTC?)

Hi try demon , just ask them to do a manual provisions as the Wellside,Concraig, Derberth area is still not fully automated , just switched to BT as I was needing a new router and they were estimating speeds of 18m, now been disconnected from broadband for 4 days , ( should have stayed with Demon ) and the BT openreach engineer indicated that he has at least 4 customers per day connected wrongly at the BT retail end . Oh by the way he also stated the 18meg quoted is from westhill , although the fibre optic to the cabinet at the end of our streets can run at that speed the conversion equipment ( onto the copper line to your house is limited to 8meg ) the only solution would be to change the equipment in the cabinets disrupting everybody's service , not going to happen . BT ...... [censored] Terrible

That sounds like total balderdash. I can't see a single probably correct statement in it apart from "just switched to BT".

I assume you live in Kingswells and get the 14-18meg indicated in the BT wholesale line checker , why would the Bt Engineers lie , I've a lot of respect for these guys , pity their call centres let BT down.

Hello all.

I noticed this thread and im looking for some advice.

I moved to the wellside area in kingswells in july, and tried to order broadband through sky. after two months of waiting they informed me they cannot provide broadband as it is not copper lines.

I then proceeded to order broadband through BT and after two months of waiting with them, they have come back and said they can only offer a set number of connections from the exchange and these have all been taken up - and they do not have a waiting list and cannot tell me when the exchange will be upgraded.

I read your forum and i think you folks are much more up to speed regarding the technology - so im just looking for some advice as to how to proceed going forward? i dont seem to be getting anywhere phoning call centres.

Its not only the TPON thats a problem here

the kingswell exchange is in westhill

which is like 4-5 miles away

i'm from abd also btw i moved away from kingswell a while back due to this reason.

there only decent speeds you'll get is either getting mobile broadband or sat broadband which in both are costly compared to landline.

But surely it is possible to get broadband?

I know from the home report that the previous owners had BT broadband. Im not so interested in speed to be honest - after four months im just needing to get broadband on the go!

Probably someone managed to grab that copper line for BB - i.e. they are rare and there will be competition for them.

Yes it sucks
