21CN is next generation, as is WBC, as is FTTC, i.e. it is a phrase that means nothing.

General consensus is next gen refers to ADSL2+ in terms of BT, since ADSL is current generation. Fibre is superfast broadband or just sees explicit mention of fibre.

BT targeted welsh press with PR on the ADSL2+ upgrades, irony being many exchanges already have ADSL2+ via alt-net providers

That's a bit confusing Andrew, as you seem to be drawing a distinction between "Next Generation" and "Next Generation Access".

As far as BT is concerned NGA is FTTx. For example
What is NGA? NGA stands for next-generation access. Broadly speaking, it means internet that uses next-generation optic fibres, rather than the copper wires which most broadband users in the UK use at the moment
from this page. It then goes on to describe the types of NGA and specifically refers to FTTP and FTTC.

ADSL2+ is the next generation of xDSL
Fibre is the nest generation of access technology after copper

In short NEXT GENERATION is not a technology definition, but a marketing/corporate phrase.

In short saying NextGen is not enough.
