21CN + LLU

Hi all,

I live in Northern Ireland my exchange is NIAL.

I currently get speeds of around 5Mbps with interleaving turned off (my attenuation varies from 35-37).

I run a business and constantly rely on the internet for emails & VoIP.

On SamKnows, it states that TalkTalk has an LLU date set "RFS date set : 06/03/2012".

I'm just wondering though - can LLU go ahead without the exchange being upgraded for ADSL2/21CN?

Do you think the exchange would eventually be upgraded to 21CN as I want to use my existing provider Aquiss. (it covers nearly 2.5k premises according to SamKnows).

Yes, LLU and 21CN are two different things. You can have one without the other.

LLU has no relationship with 21CN, except both are likely to be done in the same sites on commercial grounds. However if 21c is available the backhaul that an LLU operator will rent from BT ( equivalent to a private cct but much cheaper) is cheaper.

AGHALEE already has FTTC if you want a faster upstream as well as downstream service. All NI exchanges have FTTC but not all premises so use one of the checkers for your telephone number.

Orly has a list that shows suppliers prividing FTTC.

Are you looking for full LLU or partial (IE do you want to keep the phone line where it is?) and just migrate the broadband?

If AGHALEE already has FTTC, then why can't the OP obtain much faster speeds.
The objective of the DETI's project for Northern Ireland was to provide fibre for all businesses.

Because hes running an ADSL package not a VDSL package.

The limitation being the length of copper wire from his business to where the fibre run ends.

Yeah - that's what I'd like to do, just partial.

It came up before my cabinet was enabled it was due to be enabled with estimate speeds of 500Kbps down and 100Kbps upload however whenever my cabinet was enabled, this disappeared.

Cabinet is enabled & everything, exchange is also enabled.
