Increasing MSR

I have returned

Quick question as I am not familiar with this, but I have replaced a rather long telephone extension using flat rj11 type stuff with an extension connected up using catagory5 UTP cable.

My question to you is, my line has been trained and my bras profile set at 6000 - I'm syncing at 7104 (not far off the 6500 profile!) and my line attenuation is currently 23db downstream and 13db upstream.

Would it be worth getting my line retrained and if so how would I go about it?

It will adjust itself ... but could take 3 days for a 10-15% change to happen, 4 days for 8-10% and 5 days for anything less.

Just leave it well alone and wait.

No, the 10 day initial training is when it all settles down and works up to the maximum. Because of that BT will not do anything about slow speeds unless there is an obvious fault until the 10 days is up.

The equipment continually monitors the line and will resync at the highest possible - as you may have found and then allocate the appropriate IP profile. It is dynamic - but the response time is significant.

That just isn't so! The 10-day training does nothing but set the MSR and thence the FTR. The MSR is set at the lowest sync during the period.

Nothing special happens in the 10-day period to increase the sync. The DLM may do things, but that starts at day 1 and never stops.

So it's possible that my router will try to sync faster than the MSR?

The MSR wouldn't be the lowest sync if it couldn't!

Going by my line stats, do you think i'd be capable of bumping it up to tease perhaps an IP profile of 6500 out of it?

I would expect an 8128 sync (on standard ADSL) with a 23db line attenuation.

Have you seen what you get at the 'test' socket?
