Switching back to ADSL1?

Heres my stats below. Someone said switching back to ADSL1 may be worthwhile?

Modem may be connecting using ADSL2+ mode, but at that range no ADSL2+ frequency range bins will be available.

First instance, try forcing the DSL type used by the modem to ADSL2 and see what effect it has.

At 70dB attenuation getting any ADSL service is pretty good going.

ADSL2 is supposed to have several advantages over ADSL1 for long lines so I'd be surprised if its faster - but there's probably no harm in trying to set your modem to ADSL1 only as MrSaffron suggested and seeing which way it goes.

I note your connection speed is 1391Kbs^-1. If you're on a non-LLU ISP and subject to BT's IP profiles you'll be on the 1Mbs^-1 profile and just missing out on the 1.25M profile by 50Kbs^-1.

IF your line is otherwise stable - ie just slow and no frequent drop-outs and your modem allows tweaking the SNR margin a very slight tweak (say, to a margin of 5.5dB or 5dB) would probably allow you to hit the 1.25M profile which is a 25% increase.

Of course if you're already on a LLU ISP this won't apply.

I find ADSL2 is usually the best in these situations . The problem with ADSL2+ is the higher frequencies it uses, but ADSL2 uses the same ones as ADSL(1), just with a better algorithm. So with a bit of luck you get a slightly higher speed than ADSL, but without the instability possible on long ADSL2+ connections.

I also formed the view when I was messing about with these settings on a fairly stable ~50dB ADSL2+ O2 LLU connection that ADSL was the slowest of the three, ADSL2 the fastest.

Just my experience and observation though .

Oh no he didn'ttttttt .

Looks like stats from an o2 /Be connection too me, the Snr gives it away,
they i will if you ask them switch you to ADSL 1 (G.dmt ) but from the router wont obtain true G.dmt mode but ADSL2 instead

What Modem/Router do you currently have?

Selection of the right one may benefit you as some are much better on long lines that other. They can hold a connection, they can increase bins available and thus throughput or they can work down to a 3dB SNR.

Oh, Ah, sorry - yes he suggested ADSL2, not ADSL1

Why not try both?
