How long ago did this start, so that you lost the 6Mbps?

The line is plugged into the test socket with the ring wire disconnected. I have lost about 1 Mb. My line has progressively got worse over the past few years with my assumption that being that with the increased ADSL uptake in the area the cross talk has also increased. Is crosstalk worse when Infinity hits your area for non-FTTC customers?

FTTC isn't supposed to upset ADSLx, there is a lot of frequency masking and power manipulating to keep them separate. It sounds more to me like one or more deteriorating connections somewhere between you and the exchange.

Is there any noise using a (preferably corded) phone directly into the test socket and doing a Quiet line test? 17070 Option 2. Check it at good times and bad times.

Always use a corded analogue phone for the quiet line test

If the user hasn't got a corded one, and it is silent with a cordless, then no need to buy one smile. I agree that if noisy with a cordless that is not a reliable result.

I disagree especially as you can get one for under £5 in Argos and other places

e.g http://tinyurl.com/6lj7bny

Hardly a huge expendidure for a reliable test

What's a "corded digital phone"? Aren't they all analogue in their calling mechanisms?

Or are you thinking of a corded phone incorporating a digital Answerphone? Does that matter?

Or are you getting at a non-mains powered phone?
