Yea i suspected the router at first aswell. As i said tho its not something im overly concerned about. Id rather stay on the speed i have than risk going to 14Mbps and making my line more unstable.

Just got this email from adsl24

We are pleased to advise you that your line has now been upgraded to the BT 21CN platform.

You are now able to regrade your service to the ADSL2+ frequency which potentially offers higher speeds at no extra cost.

Should you wish to regrade to ADSL2+ you can do so by raising a ticket or by contacting us, however please remember that you will need an ADSL2+ compatible router.

So that suggests im not on adsl2+ yet? Is there a chance im on some kind of capped adsl2+ service? Hence the increase in upload

You are probably on ADSL via WBC hardware, or a capped profile that emulates ADSL like speeds while delivering ADSL2+.

Some modems report the mode they are connected at which avoids all this doubt you are having. Personally I'd go for the ADSL2+ as you should be able to run nice and fast

I don't think the WBC "ADSL" profile allows 992kbps upload does it Andrew? Maybe it does frown.

Can't say for sure here either.

Two many DLM systems to remember everything now, and very long Ofcom documents dont help

Agreed.

They get longer because the author of each new one is equally confused about what has gone before, so has to start from scratch.

Yes, it does (and always has).

As soon as a line is upgraded to 21CN, we have the option of a capped 448k (as like 20CN) or an uncapped upstream, i.e. up to 1.4Mb. This is seperate to ADSL2+ which will increase the downstream.

We provision all upgrades to 21CN on the uncapped upstream by default, but on the 8Mb ADSL profile on the downstream, so yes, the customer still needs to request the ADSL2+ upgrade to see higher downstream speeds smile

If you PM me your line number I can place the ADSL2+ modify for you - it only takes 24hrs to complete.

Thanks James smile.

(Simples, then. tongue).

Your post is clear. The reasons it is done like that by BTW, less so.

Yep. The reason they actually allow an uncapped upstream on the 21CN WBC ADSL profile is because of Office packages, who previously benefitted from 832k upstream on 20CN Max Premium packages, so they had to offer the equivalent (or better as it's uncapped up to 1.4Mb) on the 21CN WBC ADSL profile, but we're not fussy and just let everyone get the max upstream their line can take rather than cap them at 448k.
