MPF Line

Hi,

I'm having an MPF line put in for Digital Region FTTC, does anyone know if the BT engineer will pull a new copper cable or will he use a pair from the existing cable?

If there's a spare pair, it will be used.

Well it seems to be a standard 6 core cable with the blue pair being used on the existing line.

That's on the existing internal feed to your NTE, are you going to want your new line adjacent to this ? If so, then it's a cert that the engineer will use a spare in the existing cable.

Not sure tbh, If I wanted it elsewhere would they need to pull a new cable from the cabinet? And if so is it likely to be a better quality of cable than was used ~30 years ago when my house was built?

No. You'll only get a new cable if there aren't any spare pairs.

If I wanted it in a different room, would they joint the existing spare pairs to an extension?

A joint is the most likely option, the money paid for a new line comes no where near the cost of getting a new pair to every customer.

As far as I know, they originally installed more than one pair so they didn't have to pull a new cable from the cab to your house. If there's a spare pair, they'll use that. If not, they'll pull a new cable. The only thing that's important for FTTC is the distance from you to the cab.

I'm about 150m from the cab so expecting near enough full speeds

Just hope the existing line isn't copper coated aluminium

I presume they'll have to joint a pair as there isn't much slack on the cable (I can't pull the cable through anymore)

I think it got moved by builders before I moved in so the cable is under the floor boards, awkward
