default.aspx is the default page for that folder, hence no need to type it so

www.farina1.com/adsl
and
www.farina1.com/adsl/default.aspx

are one and the same.

Same machine, just an alternate DNS lookup that resolves to the same IP address

As long as your IIS is configured correctly smile

Its possible Bob's browser is looking for index.htm/index.html first wink

Which would be odd behaviour, since a browser knows nothing about the server it is talking to when doing the iniitial HTTPGET

IE9 standard setup.

It looks to have been one of those things that just happen and never get explained. But I did sufficient diagnostics to confirm it was failing before I made my original post about it.

Agreed; but I've seen some odd behaviour in my logs (perhaps caused by transparent proxies, or faked User-Agents from malware).

e.g.
http://site.com/
versus
http://site.com

causing in the first case "index.html" to be returned, and in the second case for "Default.asp" to be returned. This is an Apache server on a Linux box, and the Default.asp file I left in the directory is an HTTP redirect to index.html

I thought it was IE6 that did this....
