overheating - so hot it spontaneously reboots.

Most electronics is rated for 55 C ambient, non condensing, so if it feels hot to the touch and you can't keep your hand on it it's deffo too hot.

Does it stay online reliably if you don't use UPnP to open ports on it - could be a software crash.

If I don't open up MW3 it usually stays online.

see if there's a firmware upgrade for the router, or disable uPnP

Most electronics is rated for 55 C ambient......
Most of the router specs I've seen have a maximum of 40C, or in a few cases 45C. Is this simply to allow for a margin of safety?

an environment max of 40 C should allow well ventilated kit to keep the components under 55 perhaps.
