Have you tried looking at the ADSL statistics in the routers interface?

A common cause for resyncs (which are to be expected when ADSL shares the AM radio frequencies) can be wiring in the home. The Attenuation, connection speed and noise margin figures can help us see if that is the issue

I am having major problems with tesco. It is absolutely diabolical!! It keeps dropping several times a day and i am unable to load any page. The router strength is amazingly poor. I have the phone socket/ connection in my bedroom and have appalling strength in my living room.

I have been on the phone more or less every day during the past two weeks and they are very friendly and helpful but nothing have worked. Tried different settings and frequencies.

I used to be with orange and had non of these problems and as I still have the brightbox router I wanted to try it out. As far as recommending tesco I dont think I would. Cheaper is not always better..

Using http://192.168.1.1/ in internet explorer I was able to access the broadband settings using the brightbox router. However when trying to change the broadband settings etc to my tesco password and username it didnt accept it. Im at loss and not sure what to do and why this is happening.

I spoke to tesco but they said they couldn't assist installation of third party routers..

What is the form of a Teco username? So I can have a test of it.

Did it not accept it or did it just not connect? What was the rejection message?

You're right !

The BrightBox will not accept any user name that doesn't end in "@fs". So it is only usable on Orange.

I retract my earlier statements that this router is general purpose not locked to Orange.

I am remiss in not trying it out 1st with an arbitrary username rather than assuming that cuz all the usual suspect fields were present and user-modifiable it would work anywhere.

Its a shame they've locked this box down to emails that end in "@fs". I recently changed ISP's to Tesco BB as Oranges service was rubbish but the router that Tesco provided, a Thomson GT580 is atrocious in terms of signal strength and ability to customise!
