Android Apps on a PC

Not sure of a suitable section to post this, so chose General Broadband Chatter.
iThings being over my dead body, I was a little stumped for something to run a remote control app when the remote expired on one of my Wi-Fi Internet radios. Fortunately, I came across Bluestacks which runs Android Apps on a PC.

I don't understand exactly you want an app to run on a PC to control a WiFi Internet radio. Isnt it a bit big?

My Android phone has an app to control the LG TV we just got via WiFI - very neat and clever but the only practical use is when using a cursor on the screen when using the smart features and it doesnt control apps on the TV like iPlayer, YouTube etc.

Nice toy, might get the LG super control but I don't know enough about how it works yet and information on the Net is skimpy apart from some unreliable reviews.

My phones are neither i nor Android, so if a remote control packs up I can download control codes for my Harmony remote. But, if the problem is within the radio and you don't want to get up from your chair, then a network App is the only choice. Bluestacks will search and run Apps from four different App stores.

Seriously, how does a PC act as a remote, even given an Android App? I thought remotes worked via infra-red.
