"Slow" sync speed

Hi,

My dad has recently moved to Bournemouth, his new ADSL connection is with o2.

His line is fed via a pole, enters the property and is jointed to an internal cable which then feeds a small "master" socket, which simply looks like an extension socket.

Using the postcode of the exchange and postcode of his house it says 3miles.

Do you think there is anyway to improve on the speed? Maybe installing a NTE5?

I've removed the "ring wire" from pin 3, which has done the following:

2.4 Line Rate (Up / Down) : 1183 Kbps / 4652 Kbps
2.5 Noise Margin (Up / Down) : 6 dB / 6.2 dB
2.6 Attenuation (Up / Down) : 32.9 dB / 54.5 dB
2.7 Power (Up / Down) : 12.1 dBm / 18.6 dBm

It appears that the incoming cable is jointed to another exterior cable which goes upstairs to a BT branded box (68mmx68mm, no test socket). This is somehow then jointed to the downstairs cable again so the downstairs socket must be an extension.

Now it's no longer "Slow"

Do you think this is the maximum the line can do? Worth getting an NTE5?

Thats about maximum for that attenuation.

Make sure you remove the ring wire from all sockets not just the master.

Do you have any extension sockets? If not, don't bother with NTE5.

Am I right in thinking you have decided upstaris is the master socket? See this photo gallery. In particular the LJ2/1A and /3A. Or one of the similar ones.

As others have said, you are getting a very good speed from that one, and good from the other. Jobs a good-un, and no point in messing.

The ring wire was the key.

Good point. Maybe another 200-300kbps.
