Increasing Broadband capacity two thousand-fold

Bangor Universtity is working on some leading edge research that could poptentially allow the existing Fibre network to handle 2000 times more data. This is still in the R&D stage so may not actually make it into the real world. It does currently though look to be promising.

Only really helps if people have FTTH, and it is not clear whether this is point to point fibre or PON which is used in consumer deployments.

Nice headlines, but lacking in detail. 10GigE fibre is simple these days, as are higher speeds. The real issue is if they can lower the price of the optics, which are falling in price as R&D costs are paid off anyway.

40Gbps sounds amazing, but look at volumes pushed around UK backbones now.
