Re: Exchange upgrade, do I have to do anything?

[re: MrSaffron] [link to this post]

Well with this house it appears the master socket was moved into the garage when the garage was turned into a study.

When I switched to BT about 12 months ago they fitted a new front panel to the master socket, the Home Hub 3 goes directly to this without a filter.

The phone line extension also goes to this without a filter fitted!

I've got no filters anywhere, my two pcs have direct wired connections (both within 5 foot of router).

The Sky box isnt connected to the phone at all after the dog chewed the cable!

I've just unplugged the phone line.

did the test again, see below.

So when this appears:
Modulation: G.992.5 Annex A

Then I'm switched over, right?

So I don't need to ask yeah?

Or do I need to ask to see Modulation: G.992.5 Annex A?

Sorry for seeming a bit thick guys, I'm getting lost.

Also thinking of swapping back to FAST.CO.UK, BT seem a bit pants withconstant drop offs which maybe due to others being online.

Also why was the noise 12 and then dropping to 6 on reboot? Can I expect it to return to 12?

Do I need filters at with this newish box I got 12 months ago?

Yes, G.992.5 should appear soon. I would expect an automatic resync to happen. If it does so overnight, reconnect during daylight. Maybe do a single router reboot once every 3-4 days, during daylight, in case it isn't automatically re-sync'ed.

How long have you been with BT. Doesn't it have a 12-month term?

The high noise margin was probably Reason 2 on this page. If it returns to 12dB we need to find out what is causing it.

The new faceplate that was fitted has two sockets, because it has an inbuilt filter. The phone extension is probably fed off filtered connections on the back of the faceplate. If you connect your router at the extension and it connects to the internet then it is fed off unfiltered connections on the faceplate and the phone needs a filter at the extension. (Or the connections on the back of the faceplate need altering, if you will never use the router at the extension).

i think it was an 18 month contract but I'm so fed up with the service and then speaking to peeps in India that I think I need to swap.

I'm not good with accents, I just cannot be bothered going through the BT phone menus either. When I was with FAST there was none of this to contend with.

So the exchange hasn't actually been upgraded?
IT has but YOU haven't!

Can't you hear everyone saying if you see you can get ADSL2+ when you check your line with BT checker then the exchange has been WBC ADSL2+ enabled?

Once you are on WBC ADSL2+ you should find your throughput speeds more stable. Do FAST do ADSL2+ if exchange enabled.

You didn't really need to talk to India about this & contend with their accents. We could, and did, tell you all about it once you had given us your router stats.
