Well after a few days of checking my router info I was still stuck on the 'up to 8 mb' profile.

Called BT and the lady informed me it made no difference what profile I was on I would only get 5mb ish. But I was on 21CN. It was line see!

I insisted on going through tech support, I told the tech guy I would sign a new contract if my profile was switched.

He informed me he would put the order through and it would be done in 8 days and I could expect roughly 9mb. And that I was still on the 'up to 8mb'.

Now I was told when signing up for 'up to 8mb' that I would only get 2-4 mb, so I'm hoping with being less than a mile from the exchange I'll get a bit more than 9mb on the new profile - when it arrives!

I take it the person above is in Caldicot, you might get fibre mate but unless there is Welsh Govt intervention I dont see Magor getting it ever, your exchange must have a greater population to serve. I'll have to move up the road!!!

Can't understand why the OP would want to stay with BT - especially if one of the problems is understanding their customer service personnel.
There is also the possibility of obtaining a better broadband deal with an ISP offering Market 3 prices for a Market 2 exchange.

Well the day came of the changeover to a 21CN service (today).

Got home from work at 21:00 with the internet down, it gets slow but it never goes down, not yet anyway.

Connected but still shows as a 20CN service.

Rebooted - no change.

Reset - no change

Still on 20CN

To be expected, only once BT Wholesale has done it part will the retail providers even start to consider switching people over.

The order to do the switch has to come from the retail provider

BT Wholesale did their work on 31.10.12. I called BT who said that I would be activated on 21 CN today (19.11.12).
