I seem to have talked to a lot of people at BT.

Which dept exactly do I need to contact and does anyone have the number?

BT Retail (BT Total customer support), they will know whether or not they have submitted a regrade order for your line.

NOTE: You can be connected to the 21CN hardware rather than the older 20CN hardware (i.e. change happened) and still receive ADSL speeds. The key is to insist on the upgrade to ADSL2+ speed.

Moral is that if an ISP support cannot spot that you should be going faster on ADSL2+ then find one who can, i.e. migrate

Many thanks MrSaffron.

Calling BT now on speakerphone, therefore this gives me the opportunity to make a cuppa and bang off 20 or so emails whilst I wait.

Ok. Seems like I finally talked to a lady with some info.

She states the exchange has been upgraded including my circuit.

she explained what speeds I can get (6-7 mb).

When I pressed her on the upload speed though she said 8-900 kbps but I only get 330 kbps.

Finally she then said my 'frame unit' had not been changed/upgraded by BT wholesale and she said I just have to wait.

I said thx but informed her that due to telephonists being patchy with info I was off to another service irrespective of speeds.

Within seconds I got a call back from a gentleman who insisted he could see on his computer that BT Wholesale would upgrade the frame unit in 7 days! So I'll give them 10 days, lol.

I havent got a problem with the process of upgrading but why can't BT state the process in the first place instead of insisting my connection is fully operational on ADSL 2+ and I'm maxed out on speed and its just unlucky on my part that I have a slow line?

Unfortunately, you do have a problem with the process of upgrading.
It's been 23 days since you started this thread, and according to your router stats you're really no further forward than you were 23 days ago.
Because BT control both the retail and wholesale provision of your broadband, you're at their mercy - and, until you change your broadband supplier, you always will be.

Well the 7 days has passed since the BT person swore to me my line would be upgraded today and guess what?

Not a hard guess is it?

Anyway, unless something magical happens over the weekend it's adios BT. I think I've been more than patient.

I think you have as well.

It's just another sad story about how BT demonstrate their incompetence, and the only people who suffer are their customers.
There is one final avenue you could try and that is to contact the CEO - it used a Mr Bland (IIRC). But failing that it's probably wise of you to part company with BT.

After repeatedly telling me I have been upgraded BT now tell me my line is not suitable for upgrade, just my line that is not neighbours.

Any ideas guys?

I know the line into the house was changed at some point before I moved here. The old box is still in the living and dead, the feed from outside now comes into the garage which converted to a study.

You are being fobbed off.

The connection speed, attenuation and noise margin taken together indicate it should connect at getting on for 13Mbps on ADSL2+.

Given the length of time this has been going on, and the messing around you have experienced, I feel you have two options.

1) Just migrate to somewhere more helpful, assuming you aren't tied into a 12-month contract. (I forget).
or
2) email the CEO, (in effect the Serious Complaints people), at [email protected]

My broadband basic info/help site - www.robertos.me.uk | Domains,website and mail hosting - Tsohost.
Connection - Plusnet Extra Fibre (FTTC). Sync ~ 54.0/14.9Mbps @ 600m. - BQM

Its laughable, the latest is :

Operator
'I see the problem, you're on a different exchange to everyone else and it isn't upgraded'.

Me
'Can you please tell me which exchange if that's the case'?

Operator
'Errm no'

Me
'why'?

Operator
'because your on the same exchange as everyone else, I don't know why I said that, I'll pass you to the tech dept as you suggested'

Me
'I didn't suggest that, you did and as I've said, the tech dept passed me to you'.

Me
'I give up, goodbye'

I'm now trying to get through to openreach, lol. mission impossible.
