Slower than sync speeds

Hello,

As I'm home for the Christmas period I've been roped into looking at my family's broadband which is running at 2Mb/s, but is synced at 8Mb/s

I've been unable to test it in the master socket due to a lack of power, so it's running on an extension. This is the exchange:

The house is about 0.7 miles by road, suspect the line to be a bit shorter than that.

Any ideas or is it going to be something that needs raising with Sky?

Sky have no LLU there. So you are on Sly Connect which is notorious for congestion.

Hope you are not measuring throughput over wireless; that can be unreliable.

Migrate to a BT 21CN WBC provider or possibly TT LLU.

I largely agree with XRaySpeX.

However I'm not to happy with "... is running at 2Mb/s". Do you mean that is absolute tops and perhaps also fixed?

I'd like to see a couple of speedtest.net results taken ten minutes apart, if you could do that please? Just to rule out a particular possibility.

Strange that the removal of the ring wire made no difference to the noise margin. But that's a bit irrelevant, as coming back to XRaySpeX's recommendation, on either of his suggestions they should sync at well over 18Mbps with throughput over 14Mbps.

Could be a profile issue, what are the exact results from the BT Speed test at www.speedtester.bt.com

Yes, profile issue you will need to speak with sky and hope you get through to someone who knows what a profile is.

Yes. You will need to tell them that BT test result, although they should be able to see it at their end. The IP Profile is what actually governs your top speed, and is set by the system depending on your connection rate. It can occasionally get stuck.

For your 8.13 connection, (actually 8128kbps), the IP Profile should be 7.15Mbps. It looks like you are on the old system, more information here.

Have raised with Sky, their 1st line support sent me a copy and paste reply saying to do speed tests, change the wireless channel, connect to the test socket etc. Have punted it back to them and waiting for a reply
