AFAIK the modem is powered from an AC Adapter as ADSL Modems and Modem/routers are so could not take power via the RJ45 socket which is what I think you are proposing?

PoE application is also fairly limited at present, it'll power some access points but its main use is IP phones or IP cameras. (we've just converted to IP phones at work that are completely powered from a PoE switch)

Virgin (ADSL) => Namesco => Newnet => O2 => Plusnet => Zen => Newnet => Zen => Freeola => Vivaciti (using O2 Wholesale DSL) => Xilo (C&W Wholesale) => Xilo (Be Wholesale)

I think he is thinking of this sort of thing feeding the modem instead of a WAP.

Perhaps he could then feed power a router/switch from another tenant's line, and then other tenants' broadband from the switch.

Especially if anyone runs a badly managed P2P session. (Assuming a successful connecting up, which is what both our "nasty"s were meaning).

Probably well outside most non-business T & Cs as well.

Not sure BT would be very happy with you powering their modem with anything other than the supplied PSU which if you do POE you would be. Also, you would have to see what power requirements the modem has as POE may not be able to deliver enough juice.

I would be amazed if BT would be happy with that as an installation (and if you had any line problems they could potentially blame it on poor power supply to the modem).
