Connection Failures - ppp0 LCP down - Plusnet user

Hello everybody, this is my first post.

I've been with Plusnet since June 2011 and mostly have had a good service with download speeds of around 2.85 Mbps. Recently the download speed has been as low as 0.06 Mbps !!!! Anyone remember the old dial up connection? It seemed faster.

For the last month or so I have also had connection problems, with pages hanging.

I've connected my router to the test socket with a new filter (tried 2 new filters) and now have a new router (TP Link TD-W8968). All new cables. Same thing happens. No difference with my wired computer or wireless laptop.

My problem is intermittent, and sometimes I can connect, as now. Mostly I can open my homepage (Google) and surf for a few pages before it hangs and I get the "Internet Explorer cannot open this page" screen. Sometimes it is OK for hours.

I have tried changing dns to Google (8 8 8 8 , 8 8 4 4 ) without any improvement.

Plusnet keep opening tickets, and closing them in the periods I can connect. They are very helpful and polite, but they haven't been able to sort the problem which is now in its 3rd or 4th week.

When down my router reports a ppp0 LCP down, (whatever that is).

That means it has lost the PPP session to Plusnet that gives it an IP address. Is it set to connect on demand or stay up ?

PPP sessions can drop independent of the ADSL link to the exchange, but it's worth posting your router statistics - attenuation, noise margin, errors etc (cut & paste it)) for us to look over.

It seems to be working today - I wonder if Plusned have done something to make it work

I've connected my router to the test socket

... and what do those router stats look like when connected in the test socket ? The downstream line rate looks low for that attenuation.

These are the stats connected to the test socket. Max download I've got is 2.8 - I'm on ADSL2+, not fibre
