help with modem adsl

hello was looking into replacing my bt home hub 3 with a router that supports dd-wrt but all the decent one don't have a modem built in so was looking at modems on broadbandbuyer.com they seem to have two that look ok

is there any other modems i should be looking at?

was wondering if the d-link was worth the money as i would rather spend £20 than £50 but if the Draytek is worth the extra i might go for it.
i think im on asdl max at the moment and live 4-5 mile away from the exchange

and im i right in saying that this will connect to routers that dont have the modem built in like the Linksys E1200 and Asus RT-N16?

I have just been testing with both. The DrayTek Vigor was giving me much higher sync speeds in both down/upstream. Apart from that they both work as expected.

ah thanks so they are both a good buy with the draytek being better hence the higher price.

was just looking at the bt homehub "ADSL Line Status" page

Downstream: 2,784 Kbps
Upstream: 448 Kbps
Noise margin (Down/Up): 7.9 dB / 16.0 dB
Line attenuation (Down/Up): 58.0 dB / 31.5 dB
Output power (Down/Up): 18.8 dBm / 12.1 dBm

dont know if that is good but would it likely get better or worse if i changed the modem?

I am on a shortish line (Approx 1500 m) and I am using annex M. With the Vigor upstream in 2048K and the d-link 1500K. Downstream was much the same at around 15 Meg

At my old house the Vigor held sync where most modems did not. I cannot remember exact stats now, however it was around 5.5 meg on a 3.9 Km line with ropy E-sides

Just took delivery of a TP-Link 8816 today and seem to be getting just as good as sync results as the Vigor, HOWEVER I have no idea if it's stable yet!

nearly 3M at 58 dB isn't bad. It could go wither way with a different modem chipset.

What exchange ?
