Technical question

Someone at another forum claims that his computer had been "blown up" once because of all the traffic it was getting. Specifically, "the chips were getting fried by excessive line current from the network. i had the only broadband server on a twisted pair copper network and i was almost a mile from the POP into the fibre net. all the big services were trying to push my neighbor's internet through it and chips would melt down on the motherboard."

Is this even possible? It sounds unlikely, but I'm not an expert.

all electrical devices work to a spec, meaning that they can run max speed without any damage. Ignore anyone saying these sort of things. They must be attempting some sort of swindle or they are just so ???????, that they just do not understand how anything works.

The only problem would be if you had a lightning strike to the phone/network/pc, but the same could be said if you as a human were struck by lightning.

No, but that wouldn't surprise me. This is someone who makes many wild claims about the government watching him and various conspiracies, but this is one time where his jargon had me baffled. I just needed someone else to look at and parse his words because I thought maybe I didn't know enough to properly refute them.

He probably just needs a foil hat to stop the signals getting to his brain.
