ADSL at Extension Boxes

Hi,

Just moved house and master box is fitted with BT OpenReach plate. Now understand that extension boxes in other rooms will be filtered and therefore will not support ADSL.

Problem is that I do not want to connect router to master box. Prefer to connect in one of the other rooms that have an extension box.

Do I have to replace faceplate on master with NTE5 or is there another option?

It depends exactly what you mean by an Openreach plate. Any chance you could upload a photo of it somewhere please?

As RobertoS says - photos would be useful and if you can include the inside of your faceplate which may have two sets of terminals marked 2, 3, 5 and A, B then that would be very useful.

Even if it's slower and less stable ?

If OP currently has a NTE5 and if it has a filtered faceplate with A&B terminals then they could fit a filtered faceplate on the required extension socket and use the router there. This would obviously require good quality twisted pair cabling and an examination of how the extension(s) are wired but it would at least be worth a try?

Yes it is the same type of box that your link points to and your suggestion to connect to the unfiltered connectors looks to be the answer to my problem. many thanks.

if it's an arbitrary decision to put the router somewhere else I wouldn't make that choice.

Sure you can run an unfiltered pair to a single extension but most setups with multiple extensions would give reduced performance, depends on the wiring as you say.

To me the presence of a filtered faceplate shouts "previous problem"

If it comes to needing a "rj11 data extension kit" from the NTE5 to the preferred router location (possibly due to home wiring issues) then, rather than that, it would perhaps be better to use ethernet (cat5) from the router located near to the NTE5 running to the computer in the preferred location, if convenient?

Edit: I hope nobody suggests using "home plugs" !!!
