cdn.optimizely.com

I noticed that thinkbroadband sometimes takes a while to load, even on a 36mbs downlink. I noticed that it always seems to be waiting for 'cdn.optimizely.com'.

As I run my own caching dns server, I pointed cdn.optimizely.com -> 0.0.0.0

and now it loads fast as anything.

Thoughts on this?

Seems to be a common problem when they are involved.

This seems to be loaded on each TBB page: http://cdn.optimizely.com/js/292067074.js

As you can see, it's quite a chunk of code, no idea what it does.

Seems to be website analytics (presumably similar to google analytics). Presume this is what TBB are using to analyse visitors?

According to this you can opt out but not sure if that would speed up the site load or just stop it tracking you. Of course, to do that you need to enable cookies as it stores the opt out request as a cookie on the local device.

Or point cdn.optimizely.com to 127.0.0.1 in the hosts file� that should sort it

Ironically my browser just hung trying to open this thread

Hit stop and refresh and it then loaded fine...

Would be good if staff can confirm that this is the analytics engine in use for the site - and what impact they would feel if everyone started sin binning the address.

Thanks, perhaps that's where I should have posted in the first place.

BTW, I have been running for a day now nearly with dns change, and I would say TBB loads/responds 50% faster all the time.
